Welcome To Peppermint Escape
Peppermint Escape
A few years ago we visited the Ourika valley and were enchanted by the richness of the culture and traditions of its locals, the beauty of the landscape and the lush green of its terraces.
Such a beautiful feeling of this Berber paradise inspired us to create Peppermint Escape.
Peppermint Escape is an Eco-concept. The heartbeat of our nature-friendly project is an authentic Berber house. Visit our page menu and explore our heritage.

THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL TOWN OF AGHMAT:
Our cultural house is located in the outskirts of the medieval town of Aghmat. Archaeological excavations uncover a Hammam, Mosque and a Palace.
The Almoravids, the second royal ruling family built the town to be the capital of Morocco in the 11th century before a flush flood destroyed it and cover it with mud until now. This natural catastrophe pushed the Almoravids to build recent Marrakech instead and in a safer higher location.
Among historical elements open for visits are The Hammam, the mosque, the palace, and the mausoleums of ” El Mouaatamid Ibn Abad ” governer of Andalucia and his family who were brought to exile by the Almouravids
THE BERBER MARKET
Located in the feet of the Atlas Mountains and is a weekly market where locals, farmers, and traders gather together to sell and buy all their needs from fruits, vegetables, meat as well as other goods. It is simply the mean market for everyone in the area. People come walking, driving or with their mules or donkeys. An amazing world of chaos, social life, and colors.
THE BERBER MUD HOUSE
Build with local material from mud, wood, rocks these eco-houses dominate the architecture of the area. With thick clay walls, they are perfect to keep the heat away in torrid summers or the cold in snowy winters.
THE BERBERS
The Berbers are Moroccans who speak a different language than Arabic know as Tifinagh. They live in remote areas in the mountains, Sahara desert and along valleys. This kind of environment forges of them strong physics to living and adaptation.
Famous for their rich colorful clothing, beautiful jewelry. They live simple but thankful to what mother nature offers them. They take good care of their animals from sheep, goats, cows, donkeys, and mules which are the mean transportation and for work.
The Berber culture is rich in traditions and they live from farming, breeding animals and making the craft: Weaving carpets, making jewelry, woodwork and more…
FARMING IN THE BERBER LAND
Farming is the mean income for the Berbers. They live from growing their necessary products like cereals, vegetables, spices, and fruit trees. Amazingly they adapt the farming land in the mountains to grow their needs by building terraces supplied with genius irrigation water channels. Both Women & Men work together in the fields to contribute to the family economy.
