A bit of history

The exact date of the foundation of the town of Aghmat is not clear. Something is sure of is that during the Almouravids reign in the 11th century the town enjoyed a golden age as they developed the town to be their capital of Morocco before a strong destructive reason obliged them to move to current Marrakech which they built themselves in the same century. Aghmat operates as a trading center already in the 9th century during the ruling of The Merinids dynasty who used Fez as a capital.

Flow of the Day:

Our tour today takes you to the medieval archaeological town of Ghmat located only 45mn away south of Marrakech on the foot of the High Atlas Mountains. Being in the mouth of Ourika valley and the Haouz plains the area enjoy beautiful heritage roots, lush green and fertile land and majestic view of the mountains.
